Hello all!

There's a lot of meetups this spring, so I thought I'd collect them here rather than bombard your inboxes :)

Planned January and February Meetups
Board Games: Mad Science Edition
What: Board games!
Where: Aeronaut Brewery, 14 Tyler St, Somerville
When: Wednesday December 21st, 6:30pm. (Tonight!)
Style: Social
Run By: Skyler
Board games! Bring your favourites if you like, I'll plan to bring some of mine. Tonight I plan to bring some prototypes (including Chaos Investments!) and I invite you all to bring works in progress of yours as well. I'll also have a couple games about Science or Discovery- I'll have ZendoMoon Adventure, and either So You've Been Cursed or Math Games With Bad Drawings

Board Games and Hang!

Where: Somerville, MA
When: Saturday, Jan 24th, 6pm

Board games! Bring your favourites if you like, I'll plan to bring some of mine. Tonight I plan to bring a prototype (Chaos Investments!) and I invite you all to bring works in progress of yours as well. I'll also have a couple games about odds or betting- I'll have Wits and WagersOutrangous, my paper powered prediction market for some Two Truths and a Prediction Market or Prediction Market Werewolf, plus a poker deck.

Rationalist Practice Dojo
What: Drill a few skills
Where: 70 5th St, Apt 2, Cambridge
When: Wednesday February 7th, 2:00pm.
Style: Dojo
Run By: Skyler and Evan

Many of you may have heard Skyler's spiel on how it's not sufficient to read a blog post on how to make better decisions or observe more true things about the world, you should practice and drill as well. Today we're going to try this the way soccer practice or a karate dojo would do it; lots of repetition on several skills.

Board Games: Oldies Edition
What: Board games!
Where: Aeronaut Brewery, 14 Tyler St, Somerville
When: Wednesday February 18th, 6:30pm.
Style: Social
Run By: Skyler
Board games! Bring your favourites if you like, I'll plan to bring some of mine. Tonight I plan to bring a prototype (Chaos Investments!) and I invite you all to bring works in progress of yours as well. I'll also have a few games that are old classics- I'll have chess, dominos, inside moves, as well as cards for poker and hearts.

Rationalist Hamlet Reading
What: Dramatic reading
Where: 70 5th St, Apt 2, Cambridge
When: Wednesday February 21st, 2:00pm.
Style: Social
Run By: Skyler and Evan

Many of you may have heard my spiel on how there is a rationalist fanfic of Hamlet, it's great, and I wants to do a play reading. Guess what we're doing today?

"The Tragedy of Prince Hamlet and the Philosopher's Stone, Or, A Will Most Incorrect To Heaven" is good fun for folks who like Shakespeare and/or rationalist fanfiction. I'll have a few printed copies of the play, and we can share or you can grab your own copy for four bucks on amazon. We will pick characters from the Dramatis Personae, and then sit down and read our character's lines when they come up. I used to do this when I was in theatre more often and it's a good time. I don't actually know how long the play takes to read aloud, but I think we can do it in two hours and if not we'll make a group decision at 4:30 whether to keep going.

Announcements
We have a lot of places we announce meetups. (The mailing list, meetup.com, LessWrong, etc.) I try and announce things in all the places, but the mailing list and the Discord are the places I'm most consistent about and least likely to forget.

There's also adjacent groups like Boston Effective Altruism, Boston TPOT, and Boston Fractal around. (Also kind of Boston LessWrong, though these days Boston LessWrong and Boston ACX have kind of merged a bit)

Do you want to run something?
I might run most Boston Rationalist events these days, but I'm glad when other folks run things too. The more the merrier. In particular, we've had pretty regular Wednesday Night meetups, and I'd love for someone else to take Jan 28, Feb 11th, and Feb 25th so we keep up the streak.

It can be pretty easy to run! Aeronaut is a pub with good seating that you don't need to reserve and board games is an easy activity you don't have to prepare for.

Speaking of running things:
Last note: Also, a quick note from an adjacent community: Fractal Boston is doing another round of Fractal U this spring. If you'd be interested in teaching a community class, you can sign up here (https://tinyurl.com/fractal-boston-teachers) by January 26th! And then a couple weeks from now I'll follow up with what classes are getting run.

Sigh, I goofed up a couple dates.

Rationalist practice is Saturday, Feb 7th. Hamlet reading is Saturday, Feb 21st.

Thanks to Jackie for pointing this out.

Best,
Skyler
