Greetings SSA V15 Fleet and SSA Team Race Fleet!!!

Please make plans to attend the SSA Jr. Program Fundraiser (April 7th from 6-9 pm at SSA).

Also, please see info on fundraising below.  Other fleets have started donating for the tech shirt.  I don't think we're in a position to do that via either of our fleets, but I encourage folks to contribute personally or via your business!  I'll put my money where my mouth is :)   Reaching Ahead will donate $500 for tech shirt sponsorship...

Best, Tim

Greetings, SSA Fleet Captains (if you are no longer fleet captain, please let me know)

Elisabeth Short and I are co-chairing the rejuvenated SSA Spring Fling Fundraiser for the SSA Junior Program this year to be held April 7th from 6-9pm at SSA.  We share the mission with the entire Junior Program to reach out to the SSA fleets and promote wherever possible the bridge between the Junior Program and its emerging sailors with the existing fleets at SSA.

Here are some thoughts we had specifically with regards to the fundraiser, some that may pay dividends to your fleets throughout the summer:
  • Communication:  Please encourage your fleets via your fleet communication to attend/participate in the SSA Spring Fling event.  If you have participated in the past, you know it is a very fun, club-wide event with lots of food, beverages, and live entertainment by Orlando Phillips.  The high school sailors are the workers for the event (serving food, etc) so it is a great way to get to know some of the emerging racers and make contact with potential crews and/or fleet members.  I will be sending out soon under separate cover a flyer and event website that you can forward to your fleets.  Also please "like & share" the Facebook Event page:  https://www.facebook.com/events/166186787485956/

  • Tech Shirt Sponsorship: As in previous years, a major part of the fundraiser is creating a logo'd Tech Shirt that the high school sailors, coaches, and travel teams wear throughout the summer promoting SSA.  The logo'd long sleeve Tech Shirts (unique SSA-specific logo on front; sponsor logo's on back) will also be sold to club members for only $25.  We are asking that each fleet at SSA sponsor a logo at the $500 (large logo) or $250 (small logo) level.  Sandy Westphal is coordinating this effort for us.  Deadline is March 15th!

  • Silent Auction items:  This can be something material (your class's logo'd swag, etc) or a service such as "Ride on a J22 for a Thursday Night + dinner at SSA" or "Use of a Laser for one Tuesday Night" or some other experience that a parent might want to purchase for their emerging sailor (or themselves as many are new to sailing!) and will showcase your fleet at the same time.  I would also ask you to ask if any of your fleet members own businesses that they might make a donation for the Silent Auction, food donations, or the Tech Shirt sponsorship.
As many of you know, the Junior Committee (JRPC) was thrilled to be able to find a great deal on a "new-to-us" matched fleet of FJ's to replace our deteriorated 420 fleet that freed up monies in the Cap budget.  The JRPC was also able to sell all the no-longer-needed 420s to other clubs and individuals.  The deterioration of other JRP assets is still an issue however, and we find ourselves in need of a new 50hp engine to improve the reliability (and thus safety) of our program.  As all of us know, maintaining safe and reliable marine assets is not cheap!  A second target of the fundraiser will be community-outreach scholarships for juniors who might not otherwise be exposed to our great sport.

Attached are the forms for the Tech Shirt Sponsorship, as well as the form for other donations such as Silent Auction or Food for the event.

Thank you in advance!

Regards,

Here’s an idea... “Maybe the V15s could do the experiential silent auction idea?  TESOD ride and burger at SSA?  Just a thought :)”

Any takers?
