Hi;

Sailing needs umpires! Too often coaches have to umpire their own teams games, and some team races even go without umps at all. Would you send your child to a lacrosse game without referees…. or would it be fair to have your own coach be the ref?

The MD State High School Team Race Championship will be held 21 April in Severna Park, MD in brand new z420’s and Flying Juniors. If anyone is interested in serving our sport as an umpire, we’d love to have you, as we begin to form a league of umpires, so our sport can improve.

This event will feature live drone video with a shore-based commentator, food on-site, the top 8 teams in Maryland, and a great venue free of motor boat traffic with excellent sailing. You will be provided food for the day and the priceless gift of the good feeling of helping young sailors.

There is also happens to be a great spot in the parking lot to position a V15 during this event. What a great way to show sailing’s next generation what a great family-friendly 2-person dinghy looks like, in person.

If being new to umpiring is your hesitation, for better or worse that has not stopped most others. The potential exists also to do a ride-along during the event with a seasoned veteran. Additionally, we sail every day during the week and you are more than welcomed to come out and train with some experienced umps beforehand, anytime.

If anyone is interested in becoming an umpire, and would like to help this coming 21 April, please LMK.

Thanks

Tom

Tom;
I am very interested in umpiring, however I will be racing my Laser that weekend, Sunshine Open Regatta.
Let's talk. I have much training, regatta experience, but would love to get certified additionally.
Sincerely,
JR
