Tim and Keith:

DS Fleet 1 is hosting the 2018 Junior NACRs and NACRs with the junior event on Saturday and Sunday (NOR attached).

Our format is that a junior skippers (18 yrs old or less) and the owner of the DS or designee crews (and coaches).  There is no charge to the juniors for boat, registration, meals, shirts, etc. – just to come out, play on the Bay in a boat with a spinnaker that is pretty forgiving and definitely not spaghetti and meatballs.  The Registration form is attached and one can register on-line at SSA BUT we really need the hardcopy for headcount, shirt orders, waivers, etc.

Last year at Huntington, the youngest skipper was about 9 yrs old.  Last time it was sailed here (2013), my brother (Bruce) crewing on my boat with a 16 yr old from New Hampshire won.  Our current NACR champions were former junior NACRs competitors and now sail for one of the UC universities – they also represented the DS class at Championship of Champions.

 

I am hoping given the Vanguard fleet enthusiasm and encouragement of juniors, that you might have some likely candidates.

We certainly can support – Amy can coordinate – to make sure they get some time in a DS’er.  Amy is the DSA VP for juniors and coordinating the Jr NACRs.

I think I first skippered a DS’er when I was about 9 yrs old (leg was in a cast, so couldn’t Sunfish) – and it was a whole new world of having a crew and a spinnaker!
