Hello,
I just found this email address in my son's school email account (not sure how that happened). Anyway, I used to be a member at SSA, but I moved pretty far away in Virginia. Each summer I still sail my V15 at a lake in upstate NY just for fun. I just took my boat out of our barn (where it lives now haha) and found rotted hoses in the bilge area. I called APS, and they are permanently closed (sad).
Anyway- shot in the dark...  is anyone getting this email?  does anyone know any work arounds for how the heck I might get a hose the right size or how to replace it once I do (only one arm will reach down through inspection port)? Does anyone know anywhere that still deals in V15 parts I could call? I am finding NOT MUCH on the internet for these great boats.
Sheesh- it's a long shot, but we leave August 8, and I'd love to get out on the water with the boat.
Thanks!!  Ann

Ann,

The group is still active, but I don’t know if anyone on the list still has a boat. I do not.

The only thought I have is that the hose size is probably a standard hose size. On power boats with similar we use wire exhaust hoses and they’re a pain to install.

Cheers,
Ben

Hi Ann and Ben,

I don’t have my boat any longer but did the repair more than 8 years ago.  So i can’t recall details or specifics... but here are some Memories that
Might help:

First - I removed the cracked hose to take it to West Marine to make absolutely sure to get the right diameter and right length for replacement.  At West Marine I purchased a basic bilge hose - (widely available and very inexpensive).  Also purchased silicon to ensure the hose connections are watertight.  BTW - That basic bilge hose for a few bucks seems good enough.  The current owner says it’s still dry inside 8 yrs after replacement.

You already know it’s hard to replace with only one arm in there.  By far The trickiest part is re-attaching the metal cinch clamps that tighten the hose to the boat.  The solution for me was First to put on a large amount of the silicon on the ends of the hose to affix It to the boat - and then let it dry a little so that the hose stuck on its own to the boat - and that was the only way It was possible For me to reattach the clamp without a second hand in there holding everything in place during tightening.

Lastly to test it, I’d recommend taping Up the out-holes in the stern and filling your new bilge hoses with water to let them sit for a while.  Check in 15 min to see if any leaks.

Smarter people might know of easier ways to fix, but I hope this helps a little.

Good luck!  I sure do miss my V15.
Karl

I never replaced a set but I worked at APS for a long time and had my hands on more than a few replacement “kits.“ I don’t know the diameter (maybe 1.5”?), but I can confirm that the replacement “kits” were just one long length of basic (Atwood or whatever brand) bilge hose repackaged and marked up by Vanguard. I’d go with Karl’s recommendations, too.

Y'all are amazing!!  Thank you so much!  Glad I thought to reach out to this list. How do I add my (this) email address, instead of my son's, so I can continue to be somewhat connected?  I wish we still lived near Annapolis.  I see there are still many active fleets around the US.

cheers, Ann Renzy Maclean

Hi Ann,

I will add this email to the list this weekend.  It doesn’t get much action anymore though.

Best of luck,
Tim
