Good Morning,
In my age composition data I have a lot of observations and I get this error for several years:

1 fatal:  max agecomp obs per fleet*time is 100; you requested 101 for fleet x year 1 2015

Is by any chance an option where I can increase the number of obsvations the model can use, or something similar that I can use. I saw the function sample_agecomp from ss3sim, I do not know if this is useful.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Guillermo,

I too have encountered this issue.  It took me a fair bit of time to figure out what was going on, hopefully, you figured it out quicker than I.  This issue has been fixed in Stock Synthesis versions 3.30.23 an later where the maximum storage for age data is now 150 data rows. Here is where you can find release versions of Stock Synthesis. If you are using ss3sim, you should post an issue on that package to see if the package can be updated to use newer version of Stock Synthesis.

Thanks,

Chantel

This number is one of the very few hard limits on size of arrays in SS3.  Exceeding this limit only occurs when using conditional age-at-length data with more data length bins than the limit.

One way to avoid this problem is to condense some of the length bins.  The data length bins can be coarser than the population length bins and they need not be uniform.  This allows you to have finer length bins for smaller fish to see their detailed growth, and coarser length bins for older fish that have sparser data.  Best if boundaries of data length bins align with population length bin boundaries, but not necessary.
