SS3 Release Notes

3.30.24.1

Sept 2025

Greetings so soon again.

Well, immediately after releasing 3.30.24 that added a test for negative length-at-age, we found situations in which the test prevented some legitimate model configurations.  That got Jason Cope and I looking at it more closely and we now have a more robust test to detect growth parameter configurations that could result in negative-length-at-age, which wreaks havoc in model calculations involving the age-length key.  This work also led to us documenting how users can set the Amin value to a negative number to mimic usage of t0, the age at which length is 0.0.  Meanwhile, Haikun Xu detected a long-standing bug in the bootstrapping of generalized size composition data, and Andre Punt proposed an easily implemented augmentation to forecast control rule features.  The new code and executables are available on GitHub.  The new issues are listed below:

Alert:  We just became aware of an unanticipated interaction.  If you are using seasons as years by setting the number of months in the single season to a value less than 12, and you are setting growth Amax to a specific age, rather than setting to 999 for Linfinity, then that growth Amax is effectively the number of seasons old, rather than age in years.  This has implications for the calculated Linfinity.  If you have experience with this situation, please let us know to help us investigate whether or not all is calculated correctly. Meanwhile, you are safest to use the 999 option to enter Linfinity directly.
