Hi all,

We now have a lot of old kit hanging around, including (numbers from a quick check of the inventory, excluding unknown-location):

* 69 Power boards (without Beagleboards, see below)
* 97 Motor boards
* 51 Servo boards
* 47 Joint I.O. boards

The Beagleboards are, I believe, going to be sold. The rest, we don't have a use for. It would be nice to give them to people who might use them, if we can. I suggest that we ask SoMakeIt, the Southampton hackerspace, whether they want any of the kit (after explaining the potential fiddly-ness, of course). Whatever happens, I think it's worth discussing.

Absolutely,

It's possible that the LCDs have some value too; although I wouldn't
make any bets on that,

I myself essentially don't care what happens to the excess kit now,
assuming that SR gets the benefit of anything of value.

IMO there's also not a lot to gain (for anyone) from the decommissioned
boards themselves. If I were a hackerspace [0] I'd much prefer actual
development boards, which are substantially more robust than ours. The
only thing I can think of is if someone is planning a large installation
of something.

Unless there are actual existing plans for such a use, I can't forsee
any use for the boards, and the world is better off having them WEEE'd
now rather than hanging around indefinitely. YMMV.

[0] The nature of physics notwithstanding

I would suggest offering them to blueshirts/teams to keep, with the
caveat that they have to pay for anything we would otherwise sell off. I
for one would like a kit.

Murray.
