Hello blueshirts!
Hereby I, lilafisch, run for the position of events on the next steering commitee.
Currently I am studying for a PhD in Maritime Engineering in Southampton, before that I studied in Munich and started the Munich Student Robotics branch.
The tasks involved in running the competition for over fifty teams is complex. I have pondered for the last week if I should run for this. My decision to run is based on the fact that we need this position to be filled and that I believe that I am better suited to do so than Sam who apparently completely forgot to organise the location for the final competition until now.
Mistakes happen but even if this gets resolved quickly, leaving blueshirts uninformed and reacting the way he did to my shock that we have no venue is an unacceptable way of treating volunteers. Especially considering his application for the position in events over a year ago [1].
I think my experience from organising Munich events, running the first events there on my own and organising things at large volunteer run events in Germany (this years 31C3 had over ten thousand visitors) prepare me sufficiently for the tasks required.
Additionally I was heavily involved in the logistics of this year's summer school and I managed the roles for the last competition so I am well prepared for the needs of a Student Robotics competition.
The main goal over the next months for me is to run this year's competition as smoothly as possible. The first priority would be facilities. As we discovered last week, we are only three months away from the competition but apparently enquiries with facilities only started after I demanded for it to happen [2].
Without all the volunteers of Student Robotics we could not run our events. Improving the experience of volunteers is of a high importance to me. For this purpose I plan to involve as many volunteers in the early preparations as possible. This includes working intensively with the person responsible for the community.
After that I would like to continue the work towards a charity, ensuring that it will be democratic while still providing a stable environment for running the Student Robotics competition.
If you have any further questions
regarding my qualifications or plans,
please let me know.
Cheers
lilafisch
