Hi,

Badger is our server. It hosts (almost) all of our things. As a
result, anyone wanting to build stuff for SR probably wants to know
how to build things which work on it.

It's possible to create your own badger instance for testing on, and
also for trying out changes to its configuration.

In this first session, we'll look at how you create a badger clone,
and possibly update some of the related docs/scripts which may have
become out of date.

Location: A Google Hangout.
Time: 19:00-21:00 (and possibly later)
Pre-reqs: To get the most out of the session, please install
VirtualBox and Vagrant [1] on your machine beforehand. A beefy machine
and decent internet connection are also recommended.

Please also reply if there's a time that better suits you (I can only
do evenings/weekends; and not Wednesdays).

Since the actual creation portion of this can take quite a while,
we'll focus only on getting started and possibly some very basic
usage. I'll run a "Part 2" session which will cover actually doing
things with a badger clone at a later date.

After this session you'll know how to create your own copy of SR's server.

If you'd like to take part, please reply to this thread.

Thanks,
Peter

Hi Peter,

sounds great. I this didn't happen already, I'd be happy to take part. I'm free from this Saturday evening on.
Recording this for later reference would be cool.

Cheers

Sounds great! I'll have an exam the following morning, but if revision so far is anything to go by, my brain will be at peak cramming by 19:00 anyway. I'll probably be able to attend.

Looks like similar to me you overlooked the date in the topic?
It would be announced on the list if that changed.

I'm afraid I won't be able to make this after all, unfortunately. If you do get around to a docs/scripts update, that would be great.

This happened. We've made some changes to the docs, and raised some
issues [0] against the puppet config.

More specifically, I've raised a pull request against badger-vagrant
[1] that fixes a number of the things we found, and hopefully makes it
easier to get going just from the details in the repo.

I've also added a link to badger-vagrant from the Servers page [2], as
well as some more useful server related links to the front trac page.

If you'd like to get involved, please have a look at the pull request
and see if you can now follow the updated instructions without other
guidance. If not, let us know what's missing and/or submit patches.

Thanks,
Peter
