Competition date

Hi,

It was said that we would be announcing the competition date at Kickstart. That means we need to be considering the competition date and venue now.

Has any effort already gone into this?

Kickstart is now a week away so we're going to need an answer to this soon.

For reference Easter 2017 is the 15/16th April.

Newbury's Racecourse Grandstand remains a viable option given that
we're still at 54 teams. Unfortunately they have racedays on Friday
21st and Saturday 22nd April [1], so they won't be available on that
weekend.

We probably don't want to have the competition before Easter (gut feel
rather than a hard restriction), which leaves the weekend of the
29th/30th April 2017 unless we want to stray into May.

Obviously other venues might would have different availabilities,
though there are advantages in returning to a known venue.

For clarity: I'm not in a position to confirm the above dates, the
above is just some notes from a quick bit of research.

It may be worth noting that AS exams begin on May 15th. Although
A-Level and AS exams are now decoupled it's likely that lots of
students will still be sitting these exams.

Hi Competition Event Coordinator,

(CC trustees in case the comp-event address isn't hooked up yet)

We're approaching the end of January and I, like others I'm sure, am
starting to book things in April and later this year. While I'm sure
it's being worked on, it's becoming somewhat inconvenient to not yet
have a confirmed date for the competition this year.

Given that team-leaders will need to plan their trips to the
competition with a good deal of notice, do we at least have an updated
estimate of when we will know what the dates (and, ideally, venue)
will be?

I have just received my first email from a teacher asking about the competition. Do we have any confirmed info. in terms of location and date for this? He has expressed that he needs to know sooner rather than later in order to book transport/accommodation.

Hi All,

I was asked 3 times today, the team I've been mentoring has been asking me for the last 3 months. It's getting unprofessionally late now.

I need not remind you that teachers need to book their minibuses, and some students need to book time off their weekend jobs to go.

We should at least give a reason for why this is the case.

  1st - 2nd of April 2017

Rich tells me the volunteer sign up forms will be up Today or Tomorrow.
