Hi All,

Recently, I stumbled upon the book “The HP Way: How Bill Hewlett and I Built Our Company” written by Dave Packard.

http://www.amazon.com/HP-Way-Hewlett-Business-Essentials/dp/0060845791

I wish I should have read it as soon as I joined HP.

I feel this book is a must read for HP employees and should be given to every new hire in HP on his first day.

The book starts with a speech by Dave to HP Managers (during an Off-Site in 1960).

Dave was prophetic in his speech and his words are more relevant now than they have ever been.

It is more important NOW (HP Way Now).

Here are my favorite lines:

“Over the years we have developed the policy that it is important for the supervisor to thoroughly know and understand the work of his group.”

Management by Objective as compared to Management by Control.

In other words when we discuss supervision and management we are not talking about a military type organization where the man at the top issues an order and it is passed on down the line until the man at the bottom does as he is told without question (or reason). That is precisely the type of organization we do not want. “

Regards

Gaurav
