Use Twitter and Facebook to Stay Safe in Albuquerque

-Albuquerque Public Safety officials remind residents that it is easy to stay in touch with city public safety news and reminders by using the latest social media sites on the Internet. Check out the following:

Police Twitter: twitter.com/abqpolice - this twitter gives you traffic updates, police news alerts, news releases, and messages from the Chief of Police, Ray Schultz

Fire Twitter: twitter.com/abqfire - gives you news alerts and news releases from the Albuquerque Fire Dept.

Public Safety Office Twitter: twitter.com/abqpublicsafety - gives traffic alerts, fire and police news alerts and releases, and messages from the Chief of Police and Public Safety Director.

Police Chief Twitter: twitter.com/apdchief - this twitter will give you alerts directly from Albuquerque Police Chief Ray Schultz.

Public Safety Office Facebook: facebook.com - The Albuquerque Public Safety Office (search this phrase at Facebook) is now on Facebook, with fire, police and public safety news messages and alerts, traffic alerts, and messages from public safety department directors. You can also search through mug shots of the city's top property crime offenders.

Crime View: cabq.gov/police - look for the Crime View link on the right side of the page. This new application allows users to see what crimes have occurred in or near their neighborhood. It also allows you to sign up to get an e-mail alert whenever a crime occurs within a specified area.

October 'Backyard Post' Now Available

Here is a summary of news from the latest edition of the SRMNA Newsletter - The Backyard Post.  This newsletter will be delivered to your door this month, and you can also view it in its printed format by clicking here (must have Microsoft Publisher-compatible software).

The Backyard Post - October 2010 -  a Susie Rayos Marmon Neighborhood Association Newsletter

Letter From the President

Hello Neighbors!

Fall is in the air … I personally am not a fan of Fall (I prefer Spring/Summer) but this year something is different and I’m actually looking forward to the cool Fall nights out on the porch, the crisp mornings and watching the leaves change colors…not so much the raking of the leaves, but hey it has to be done, right?  Raking will keep our neighborhoods clean and make morning and evening walks more enjoyable for all.

I hope everyone will GET OUT AND VOTE ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 2nd. This is an important election with several West Side representatives on the ballots.  Our area’s voting site is Susie Rayos Marmon Elementary School located on Iliff and 72nd.    Remember if you don’t vote you’re not exercising one of the great rights that we have as Americans!

I want to congratulate all the Summer of 2010 "Patio Lindo" Awardees.  We changed it up a bit this summer and voted on homes in each subdivision, so we issued several certificates.  It was great to see that so many homeowners had their yards in great shape.  You can see the complete listing below.
I’m looking forward to the upcoming Feliz Navidad contest in December.  I love seeing our neighborhoods all lit up for Christmas.

By print time we had not received the SRMNA crime statistics, but as soon as we receive them we will post them on the SRMNA website, so please remember to check srmna.org often for updates and happenings. We need to work  together to beat the crime in our area; it cannot be done alone!

Please remember to send in your annual dues, as we cannot operate without them.

Deaun Lewis, President, SRMNA

Dog Park Update

The City of Albuquerque has allocated funding for a dog park to be built at the corner of Ladera and Ouray.  We will share details with you as we receive them by posting on our website and in our newsletter.

Your Attention Please!
Some homeowners are parking their camping trailers/boats in their driveway or their vehicles in the graveled areas of their front yards.   A reminder that it is a violation of the City Ordinance to park vehicles in prohibited portions of your front yard.  Parking of recreational vehicles (Camping Trailers/Boats) for extended periods of time and in unauthorized areas is also a violation.

Soon the leaves will begin to fall from our trees and shrubs.  Please be considerate to your neighbors and rake them up before the Fall winds blow them throughout our neighborhood.

When walking your family pets, always remember to ‘Scoop the Poop’.

News and Upcoming  Events
  1. Our 1st neighborhood-wide Yard Sale, scheduled for the weekend of June 11th, proved to be very successful. Many homeowners participated and we look forward to doing this again next year.
  2. The construction of the Bell Tower with electronic signs has been approved by the City Council  after receiving much opposition from surrounding neighborhood associations.  SRMNA has fully supported this project since it’s inception.
  3. The General Election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 2nd.  For information on the General  Election, to review General Obligation Bonds or to confirm voting locations go to www.bernco.gov.
  4. The City of Albuquerque has given approval to the Saints Peter & Paul Church located at 5800 Ouray NW to construct a community building on their property.
  5. KOB-TV 4 is looking for individuals who are interested in becoming community contributors to share what’s happening where you live.  For more information go to www.kob.com and click on the community contributor link.
  6. The City of Albuquerque offers a free mediation  program for neighbors having issues with each other.  Call 768-4500 for more information.
  7. "Feliz Navidad" Certificates will be awarded again this year.  Board Members will drive around our neighborhood during the Christmas Holiday and make nominations.  This is completely voluntary so if you wish to participate decorate, decorate, decorate!
We Need Your Help!
We would like you to consider becoming a Board Member, or possibly volunteer to help distribute our newsletters (twice annually).   Currently there are six (6) of us responsible for delivering over 1,400 newsletters.  If you are interested, contact any of  our board members by visiting our website:  www.srmna.org

How much are the dues?  Will we get an address to mail them to?  I am also not a fan of the FALL - I am a warm weather girl (from El Paso)
