Crimes on the Increase

I wanted to make everyone aware of a recent increase in criminal activities within our neighborhoods:

1.) We are again having a major problem with somebody (teenagers?) cutting down trees in our area.

2.) Apparently on Sunday the 24th, several tires were slashed with what may have been an ice pick.  This happened to dozens of vehicles from 64th up to 72nd, north and south,

3.) We also had to report several gun shots being heard on Sunday the 24th.

Gelabert urged us to keep our eyes open and report any and all activity, even if we think it is minor.  We need to try to get descriptions of suspects and, most importantly, license plate tag numbers from vehicles. The police believe the culprits are a group of teens that have been causing havoc in our area for years, but now have upped their game. These boys are in their late teens, usually ride bikes along 64th, and have been seen in a 4-door silver or gold car. Please notify your neighbors to call in any activity, and urge them to read the website for any updates.

We cannot allow young criminals to take over our neighborhood, and so it is time to really get active and put a stop to it. The police will keep me updated with any activity in our area, and it will be posted to the SRMNA Web site.  The police may start holding their field meetings in front of several different area houses, so their presence is known, so don’t be alarmed if you see up to 10 police cars gathered, I am hoping this will help deter the crime, but it will also help if we are patrolling (with our eyes, ears and feet) our own neighborhoods.

Please notify me, or Pete Gelabert of the APD (897-8803; pgel...@abq.gov), if you see anything suspicious along these lines.
Deaun Lewis, President
SRMNA
