Hey! I thought everyone would like to read this important email about Yom HaShoah.
Hey Chazak! Below is a letter from Chazak REC VP Ariel Siegel on the significance and importance of Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance day. I urge you to read her message and to take time to reflect on the horrors of the Shoah and the tremendous injustices which still exist today.
Also, keep in mind that a modern-day Shoah is happening right now in Darfur. You can speak out by attending the
Rally for Darfur in Washington DC on
Sunday, April 30. More information is available on
the website.

Dear Chazak,
Today is Yom Hashoah VeHagevurah, Holocaust Remembrance Day (or for those who prefer the literal translation, the Day for Remembering the Holocaust and the Heroism). Today we recall the evils of Adolph Hitler, and honor the memories of the six million Jews murdered in concentration camps at the hands of the Nazis. We recall the brave people who stood up in the face of evil and took a stand for what they believed in. We recall what happened to our people during the Holocaust.
It is up to us, the next generation, the future leaders of the Jewish people, to never forget the 11,000,000 people deemed unworthy to live by Hitler and the Nazi regime. "Never again shall we march like sheep to the slaughter."
And today, in recalling our own history, we cannot ignore the fact that similar things have happened to other groups, and that the violence of prejudice and oppression still exists in the world. As Jews, we are familiar with the repercussions of when otherwise good people remain silent in the face of persecution, oppression, and violence. Today is not only for recalling the past tragedies, but also for preventing future ones. This is our call to act now, and take a stand for what we believe in.
We have said countless times, "Never again." Today we have the chance to live up to our word, and never allow genocide to occur again. Visit
http://www.ajws.org and
http://savedarfur.org to see what you can do.
In remembering the horrors of the Holocaust and the tragedy of genocide, we have the ability to prevent it from ever happening again.
I leave you with the words of the song Ani Ma'amin:
Ani ma'amin be'emunah sh'leima, b'viat hamashiach. V'af al pi she'yitmahmei'a im kol zeh achakeh lo b'chol yom sheyavo.I believe with perfect faith in the coming of the Messiah, And although he may tarry, I will wait daily for his coming.B'Ahava,
Ariel Siegel
