Our artisans form the backbone of our handicraft industry. Every craft is a symbol of the inner desire of the craftsman and is an offering to the Lord of all art, Srimannarayana. It is a moment of fulfillment to witness the end product, however small or big. And the COVID-19 has damaged this backbone very badly. The potter displays his skill in making the beautiful dolls, the painter in colouring them, and so on. An entire family depends on this seasonal sales to earn some money to be saved to sail them through the rest of the year. The COVID-19, however has disabled the very spine of these skilled artisans, making any festival devoid of its true spirit of joy. The worst hit are the seasonal articles, which are hand-crafted with lot of care and attention awaiting to be purchased by ardent rasikas. Same thing has happened to these golu dolls, bommais. And when Srimaan Trust placed an order for a bulk quantity of dolls to cater to so many villages for the golu display, it brought the smile back on their faces. They immediately took to work and diligently worked day and night to fulfill the requirements. This was seen as a golden opportunity for them to brighten up their own celebrations, which looked rather dull and bleak earlier. The artisans profusely thanked the Trust for providing some ray of brightness in their livelihood and looked at this opportunity as a blessing. They also delivered all the dolls neatly packed in the respective sets at the right time. While the artisans were happy on having gotten this opportunity, the volunteers at the Trust were delighted to see the perfect execution and delivery of the dolls on time for the golu display. This Golu therefore served as a golden opportunity for these artisans. Their best wishes were acknowledged by all of us and we revelled in the positivity. Apart from being a source of some immediate money for these artisans, the real receipt is the royal couple, Sriranganathan and Sriranganayaki’s blessings in abundance for these skilled makers of the bommais.

நமது கைவினை கலைஞர்கள் தான் கைத்தொழில் துறையின் முதுகெலும்பாக திகழ்கின்றனர். கைவினை கலைஞர்களின் படைப்பாற்றலால் உருவாகும் ஒவ்வொரு கலைப்படைப்பும் கலைகளின் தெய்வமாம் ஸ்ரீ மந் நாராயணனுக்கு காணிக்கையே. அருமையாக வடிவமைக்கப்பட்ட ஒவ்வொரு கலைப்படைப்பும், அது பெரியதோதா அல்லது சிறியதோ காண்பவர்களுக்கு மனநிறைவான தருணங்களை தருகிறது. இந்த அரிய கலையுலகை கொரோனா தொற்று பாதித்துள்ளது.
ஒரு குயவரின் திறமை அழகிய பொருட்கள் மற்றும் பொம்மைகளில் வெளிப்படுகிறது. ஓர் ஓவியரின் திறமை பல வண்ண ஓவியங்களில் மிளிர்வது போலவே ஒவ்வொரு கலைப்படைப்பும் உருவாகின்றன. ஒவ்வொரு கலை வடிவமும் அதற்கான பண்டிகைகளிலும் கொண்டாட்டங்களிலும் விற்பனை செய்யப்படுகிறது. அந்த விழாக்கால வருமானமே கலைஞர்களின் குடும்பங்களுக்கு வருடம் முழுவதும் வாழ்வாதாரமாக உள்ளது. கொரோனா பெருந்தொற்று காரணமாக இந்த வருடம் பண்டிகைகள் மற்றும் திருமணம் போன்ற விழாக்கள் நிறைவான முறையில் நடைபெற இயலாத சூழல் உருவாகியுள்ளது. அதனால் இந்த தனித்திறன் கலைஞர்களின் வாழ்வும் வருமானமும் கேள்விக்குறியாகி உள்ளன. இவ்வாறு பாதிக்கப்பட்ட கலைஞர்களில் நவராத்திரி போன்ற விழாக்களுக்கு மிகவும் சிரத்தையுடன் பொம்மைகளை உருவாக்கும் கலைஞர்களும் அடங்குவர். ஸ்ரீ மாந் ட்ரஸ்டிலிருந்து நாம் பெரிய அளவில் பொம்மைகளை வாங்க முற்பட்ட போது, அந்த கலைஞர்களின் முகங்கள் அகமகிழ்ந்து மலர்ந்தன. இரவும் பகலும் மிகுந்த ஈடுபாட்டுடன் அவர்கள் நமக்கான பொம்மைகளையும், இறை திருமேனிகளையும் உருவாக்கி தந்தனர். பொலிவிழந்து இருந்த அவர்கள் குடும்பங்களில் இந்த வாய்ப்பு பண்டிகைக்கான உற்சாக வெள்ளத்தையும வாழ்க்கைக்கான ஆதாரத்தையும் கொண்டு சேர்த்துள்ளது.
அந்த கலைஞர்கள் நமது ட்ரஸ்ட்டிற்கு மனப்பூர்வமாக நன்றி தெரிவித்து இந்த வாய்ப்பை ஒரு வரமாகவே கருதுவதாக நெகிழ்ந்தனர். மிகுந்த ஈடுபாட்டுடன் அழகிய பொம்மைகளை மிக நேர்த்தியாக பெட்டிகளில் அடுக்கி உரிய நேரத்தில் நம்மிடம் சேர்ப்பித்தனர். இந்த அரிய வாய்ப்புக்காக கலைஞர்கள் மகிழ்ந்த அதேவேளை நம் தன்னார்வலர்கள் அவர்களின் தொழில் நேர்த்தி மற்றும் குறித்த நேரத்தில் பட்டுவாடா செய்த முறையால் மிகவும் கவரப்பட்டனர்.
