“Age has never put restraints on his urge to champion a noble cause. Justice V R Krishna Iyer deserves this honour by all means,” said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. He was speaking after handing over the Sri Satya Sai Baba Puraskar to Justice V R Krishna Iyer at his residence in Kochi on Sunday. The Chief Minister said that Justice Iyer could not receive the award at the function which was held for this purpose, since he was unwell at the time. “I could not let go of an opportunity to honour a great man. Hence I decided to come and present the award to Justice Iyer personally,” he said.
Justice V R Krishna Iyer was one of the six winners of the Sri Sathya Sai Baba Puraskar, which has been constituted for the first time.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Iyer said that as long as the schism between the rich and the poor continues to plague the society, our responsibility to strive for justice remains the same. “Madhav Seva and Manav Seva- service to God and service to man- should always be our motto and we must always strive to bridge the divide in the society,” he said.
