MANAGING COUNCIL MEETING-11/3/16
Members present: Gary Wright, Ingrid Appelhagen, Gale Boldt, Carol Settlage, Dave Williams and Jim Brunsman
The first item of business concerned portions of asphalt in the parking lot that have crumbled and are becoming a potential safety concern. Ingrid invited the council members to go outside to view the situation, so we could better understand the issue. The council discussed solutions and we are considering using a professional curb company that can finish some of the areas near the flower beds.
The Aesthetics Committee has been working with the Mother Center on sound panels for the social hall. The Managing Council discussed the current plans for the panels and Victoria Williams is scheduled to give a presentation on this matter at the General Membership meeting scheduled for this Sunday, November 6.
There is some interest for a Sunday Preschool program at the Center. Victoria Williams will also briefly discuss the progress at the General Membership meeting. The next item for discussion was the schedule of activities for the monastic visit that has been confirmed for January 26-29, 2017. The plan is for Brother Devananda and Brother Muktananda to join us for a weekend of meditation, classes, satsanga, and fellowship. We also scheduled Haig Koobatian’s memorial service for Sunday, January 29, 2017 starting at 12:30.
The Council also briefly discussed the archiving of SRF materials. We determined that SRF related materials only should be displayed in the case and we want to make it clear these items are not part of the lending library. Some of these materials are very fragile and should be preserved. Ingrid agreed to inform the congregation on this subject at the General Membership meeting on Sunday.
To conclude the meeting, we called Brother Devananda at Mother Center to inform him of our discussions and to confirm details of the January visit. Brother plans to give a 90 minute class on introspection on Saturday, January 28 in the afternoon, following a meditation from 8:00 to noon. Brother expressed his willingness to conduct solo interviews and Kriya checks and asked if some of the devotees would like a nature walk on Friday. He is also willing to conduct a satsanga, but we determined that too many activities would be inadvisable. Due to the monastic visit, the committee chair meeting and General Membership meeting need to be rescheduled. Brother led us in a closing prayer. The next Managing Council meeting is slated for Tuesday, December 6.
