MANAGING COUNCIL MEETING NOTES-7/18/17
Members present: Gary Wright, Patricia Gayman, Gale Boldt, Ingrid Appelhagen, Dave Williams, Jeneba Lahai, and Jim Brunsman
Gary opened the meeting with a prayer and we began our discussion by welcoming our new Managing Council Member Jeneba Lahai, who is co-chair for our Young Adults Group. Then we discussed how information is disseminated to the Sacramento Center members. Special guest Tony Brunsman spoke about our transition from Google Groups to Mail Chimp, which is a process that will require training for those posting information for the congregation. Jeneba suggested having a “Communications Director” and Tony will handle that role.
We discussed last weekend’s “give away event” do determine if this is an event that should be continued. Hot weather last Sunday may have contributed to diminished attendance for the event, but the devotees seemed to enjoy themselves. One member expressed distaste for the event, while another expressed strong support. We will ask the congregation to offer opinions on this issue at the next General Membership Meeting.
We still have occasional illegal dumping adjacent to Center property and we discussed measures to mitigate this problem. Since we have the property owner’s permission, Dave volunteered to donate a section of fence to prevent access to this area and will install it in the near future.
Jeneba spoke briefly on the activities of the Young Adults Group. To increase the strength of the group, Jeneba suggested the members get to know each other better and wants to unite the northern California Young Adults Group. She also spoke about how beginners on the path need more assistance and described a recent Satsanga as particularly helpful. Some members of our Young Adult Group are planning to attend the Lake Shrine Young Adult Spiritual Weekend Retreat from September 29 to October 1.
The refurbishing of the chapel pews is now completed and most of the devotees reported that they are pleased with the results. Gale is looking into cushion options for those who want additional padding. There are some cushions already available in the chapel.
Following the meeting, we called Brother Devananda to report on our discussions. Brother led us in a prayer to close the meeting. The next Managing Council Meeting is slated for Tuesday, August 15.
Respectfully submitted,
Jim Brunsman
