MANAGING COUNCIL MEETING NOTES-4/11/17
Members present: Gary Wright, Patricia Gayman, Gale Boldt, Ingrid Appelhagen, Dave Williams and Jim Brunsman
Following the opening prayer Victoria Williams explained the progress on the acoustic panels for the social hall. The current plan is to install three acoustic arched panels on the south side of the social hall. The panels will be constructed of multiple sound absorbing materials. The first phase of the project will be to install ten fabric covered sound panels with 3 arches covering the entire south wall. The west wall featuring Master’s Lake Shrine photo, will be done in a second phase with a large arch over his picture. The designs will be available for the congregation at the General Membership meeting slated for April 30 after Sunday service. All those interested are invited to attend the meeting and vote. The Managing Council unanimously approved the project.
Gary reported on the Young Adults Group, which is gaining momentum. Last Sunday, three new devotees expressed interest and the group met at the local park for a group meditation. The group is developing a Facebook page to communicate future plans and increase visibility among social media users.
On July 16, we have scheduled an “Ice Cream Social” but there was discussion of the usefulness of this event. Last year’s event was considered a success so we will put the idea to a vote at the General Membership meeting.
Security cameras are being discussed with our maintenance staff to augment the security patrols. Gary reported on camera options and the council agreed that higher resolution cameras are preferable to lower cost cameras due to superior image quality. In order to monitor the cameras, we would have to install wi-fi and volunteers would be needed to oversee the system.
Ingrid spoke about the need for more cabinets for the multi-purpose room. There is also a need for space to store items used at the annual retreat. The council decided that three cabinets should be enough and the older cabinets will be donated to the devotees. The cost is expected to be about $750.00 and the congregation will have an opportunity to vote on this at the General Membership meeting on April 30.
Gale reported on the pew reupholstery, which is now scheduled for a June installation. We will have a fund raiser to raise money for this project and a letter will be sent to the congregation to seek donations.
Brother Devananda was unable to join us for our usual conference call following the meeting but Gary plans to follow up this week to get answers to a few questions.
The next Managing Council Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 16.
Respectfully submitted,
Jim Brunsman
