MANAGING COUNCIL MEETING-10/11/16
Members present: Gary Wright, Carol Settlage, Gale Boldt, Ingrid Appelhagen, Dave Williams, and Jim Brunsman
The first item of business concerned our recent and future renovation projects.
The bathroom floors were just installed and the kitchen remodeling and pew refurbishing are the next planned improvements. Funding these projects has not been a drain on our financial resources so far, but the council briefly discussed which of our building funds should be used. This will be a topic of discussion at the next general membership meeting scheduled for November 6.
The current plan is to reupholster the chapel pews after the aesthetics committee selects a couple of suitable fabrics. Then interested members of the congregation can vote on the fabric design they like best.
Ingrid reported on the Center’s archive display case. The council explored the purpose for the case and there are different opinions as to what sort of materials should be displayed. In general, we agreed that we would limit it to SRF historical materials that would be for use at the Center only. This is another matter that is slated to be discussed at the next general membership meeting.
We have been reporting for some time about acquiring new chairs for the multi-purpose room. However, after feedback from the devotees, the council has decided that the better course is to refurbish the existing chairs. This could be done at the same time as the pews. There are devotees who find the multi-purpose room chairs uncomfortable so we are exploring options for increasing comfort in other ways. The council agreed that a smaller, more substantial pillow may be more appropriate than the fluffier, larger pillows we currently offer.
Our annual holiday food drive was approved again this year. Last year’s food drive was another success and Carol reported that seeking monetary donations allowed some of our devotees to buy large quantities of food for needy families.
Following the meeting, we called Brother Devananda, who was not available to take our call at that time. The next Managing Council meeting is scheduled for November 3.
Respectfully submitted,
Jim Brunsman
