MANAGING COUNCIL MEETING NOTES-5/16/17

Members present: Gary Wright, Patricia Gayman, Gale Boldt, David Williams, Ingrid Appelhagen and Jim Brunsman

Following the opening prayer and introductory remarks, Gale reported that the pew upholstery project is still slated for June. The contractor has received our check for the down payment on the project. Volunteers from the Sacramento Center recently sent out a letter seeking donations specifically to pay for the pews. We have received many donations in our fund raising effort and we are still accepting donations for the next two weeks. Gale also spoke briefly on our preschool program which is attracting more children than expected. Gale also mentioned that the Multipurpose room is available from 11:15 a.m. to noon when there are too many children to fit in the small meeting room.

The Center has a “free table” in the Multipurpose room that has come under scrutiny in recent weeks. A couple of devotees have questioned the need for the table while others appreciate claiming useful items that others have discarded.

At our next General Membership meeting, we will seek opinions from the congregation regarding this subject.

Gale discussed the need for more volunteers for the Maintenance Committee. Several small repairs are needed and we are currently understaffed. The Managing Council agreed that an announcement should be made seeking volunteers to join the Maintenance and Social Committees.

The Sacramento Center’s Young Adult Group is meeting on a regular basis and more members are joining the group every week. Enthusiasm is high for this group and the Council encourages the young members to volunteer to serve on some of the Center’s many committees.

There is an apparent need to organize and consolidate much of the Center’s paperwork. There are important documents such as construction contracts, letters and email communications, and much more that needs to be filed in a central location so that devotees in the future can access this information. The Center’s file cabinet will be the repository of many of the Center’s important documents. Ingrid has agreed to lead the file organizing and Patricia will assist.

The annual spring retreat in Applegate is scheduled for this coming weekend. We have 81 confirmed attendees so far. Following the meeting, we called Brother Devananda to inform him of the Center’s recent activities. The next Managing Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 13.

Respectfully submitted,

Jim Brunsman
