MANAGING COUNCIL MEETING NOTES-1/10/17

Members present: Gary Wright, Ingrid Appelhagen, Dave Williams, Patricia Gayman, Gale Boldt and Jim Brunsman

Gary Wright, Sacramento Center Coordinator, opened the meeting by discussing the upcoming monastic visit and memorial service for Haig Koobatian. Gale Boldt than discussed the proposed security patrol for the Center and the council voted to approve the plan. The contract is ready for review from Mother Center and the documents will be emailed to Brother Devananda who will forward them to the legal department. We are also investigating security cameras for the property in an effort to reduce trespassers. The plan is to connect the cameras via wifi so that the devotees with smartphones can monitor the facility in real time before entering the property.
Another way to protect the property is by installing a gate at the front entrance and on the east side of the property. Gary plans on researching gate options and will report his findings at the next Managing Council meeting.
The 20th anniversary of occupying our current building is coming up in the spring of 2018. There was a brief discussion of what we could do to commemorate this event. One suggestion was to combine an anniversary celebration with an outreach event. We are soliciting ideas for this event.
Our pew reupholstering project is still in progress. Deciding on a fabric is the next step and the Aesthetics Committee will provide two sample fabrics the devotees can vote on after service on January 22nd. The Mother Center then must approve the choice.
We are continuing research into acoustic panels for the social hall. There are many details to consider and our acoustic expert suggests we try two different sound absorbing materials to minimize both the higher and lower frequencies.
Some devotees have requested that a hand rail be built near the altar of the chapel to help in descending that narrow step from the altar to the main floor. The current plan is to install a hand rail near the organ so service readers can step down more easily.
At the conclusion of the meeting, we called Brother Devananda at Mother Center to discuss details of his upcoming visit and the other items of business. The next Managing Council meeting is scheduled for February 7.

Respectfully submitted,
Jim Brunsman
