Los Gatos Center Announcements – January 5, 2013

Happy New Year!

    

The birthday commemorative for our Guru, Paramahansa Yogananda, will take place today, January 5th, starting at 7:00 PM with a meditation.  The commemorative service begins at 8:00 PM. Please bring your own flower and a monetary donation in an envelope as offerings if you are able. Parents with young children are welcome to enter the sanctuary when the service reader announces that it’s time to bring the offerings to the Guru. We ask that young children stay for a short time only after making their offerings. They are welcome to continue chanting and meditating in front of the altar downstairs.

 

On Sunday, January 6th, the 10:00 AM meditation will be guided, giving newer devotees a good routine to follow. After the 11:00 AM reading service, all are invited to participate in a birthday celebration for Paramahansa Yogananda downstairs in the social hall, which will include a chant and aarthi by the Sunday School children followed by a birthday cake honoring Master for all to enjoy.

 

Volunteers are needed to help with taking down the Christmas tree in the sanctuary on Sunday after the birthday celebration for Master. Many hands make light work.

 

The long commemorative meditation honoring our Guru’s birth will take place on Saturday, January 12th, starting with the practice of the Energization Exercises. This meditation with kirtan, which marks the first long meditation in January at the Los Gatos Center, starts at 10:00 AM and concludes at 4:00 PM. There will be a break midway. The other long meditations for January will take place on January 20th and 27th at 2:00 PM.

 

The Los Gatos Center needs more ushers for midweek and Sunday services!! If you are a current SRF Lessons student and interested in serving as an usher, please sign the usher sign-up sheet in the foyer or on the bulletin board downstairs. Training will be provided.

 

Volunteers are needed to lead the Second Coming study group on Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. You do not have to be a Kriyaban to lead this service. Please contact Sue Leeder for details.

 

If you are interested in learning how to play the harmonium, classes will be taking place in mid-January.

The book room, located downstairs at the Los Gatos Center, is open from 12 noon to 12:30 p.m. on Sundays.
