Hello Swordfish!
Monday is Meet #6 and our last
HOME
meet of the season! The following information is very important so please read through!
Monday’s meet is against Westwood at 6:00 pm. Please be at SRA by 5:00 pm, allowing plenty of time to park. **This meet is a special one because we will recognize our graduating 2026 senior swimmers prior to the start of the meet.** We will be foregoing warm-ups. Please be sure to send ALL swimmers to the surrounding pool area at 5:30 pm to show their support for all of our amazing graduating seniors. Parents should come too! It is a special opportunity to recognize the years these swimmers have dedicated to swimming for SRA as well as their many accomplishments.
Events: You can find out what events your child is swimming in on the bulletin board on Saturday. This will be posted to our Facebook page (Southampton Swordfish Swim Team) and emailed by Coach Mike. Please be sure to review and notify him immediately if any changes need to be made. During the meet, their events will be posted on a corkboard viewable on the home spectator side of the fence near the starting blocks. Stroke of the Week is Butterfly, and the Relay is Medley.
Remember that 8 & Under relays are always the first event of the meet. All other relays are at the end of the meet. Please do not leave early if your child is assigned to be in a relay. There will be other children in that relay unable to swim in their event if your child is missing.
Clerk of Course: Prior to their events, all swimmers will be asked to report to the Clerk of Course in front of the baby pool to get their heat and lane assignments. Parents may accompany their swimmers to the point that they are called individually by the Clerk of Course. Parents are not allowed to accompany children to the Clerk of Course benches or the blocks. If you would like to be closer to the action, VOLUNTEER to be a Clerk of Course Walker or Timer Sheet Runner!
Volunteer: Speaking of Volunteers, Home swim meets are truly a team effort and take dozens of volunteers to run smoothly. 42 volunteer jobs requiring sign-ups to be exact! At this moment, we have 16 unfilled slots. We need you! Please log in to Sports Engine and select Meet#6 to sign up for a shift. Please don't make us ask 15,000 times to fill spots before the meet because we will! Click to Volunteer!
Food: The Swordfish Café will have a number of food, beverage and ice cream options this Monday to satisfy any palate! We will have fruit, bagels, pasta, soft pretzels, Caesar salad with chicken, hot dogs, candy, chips and guacamole or salsa. We have a huge selection of beverages, Fruit Smoothies and ice cream. We will also be grilling hamburgers on the patio.
Parking: We all know that there is limited parking in the SRA lot. There is also parking in the baseball field lot and at Southampton Elementary School. Parking is allowed only on ONE SIDE of the neighboring streets. Please pay attention to the NO PARKING signs...they apply to that side of the street for the ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE STREET. You will be towed!
Safety: Swimmers are NOT allowed in the lower pool, on the slide, the playground, or the tennis courts during swim meets. This is for their safety. Please help us enforce these rules.
Weather: In case of bad weather, we will swim in the rain but not thunder/lightning. A meet can only be canceled one hour after it was scheduled to begin (i.e. if a meet is scheduled for 6:00, we have to wait until 7:00 to decide to postpone). If it thunders during the meet, we ask that you wait in your car and do not leave until a decision can be made about the meet. We try very hard to complete a meet on the scheduled night. It takes a lot of volunteers to run a meet and it is difficult to call everyone back for a second night. League rules state that all meets must be completed.
Sportsmanship: Our team has had a long standing tradition of shaking hands with opponents after a swim demonstrating good sportsmanship. Any swimmer who prefers not to shake hands can do an elbow bump, say “good race” or any other gesture of sportsmanship that they are comfortable with. Please also speak with your swimmers about being kind, encouraging, and supportive of their teammates. There is no I in Team, and remember our cheer, STAY TOGETHER AS ONE!
The last 8 & Under party will be at their practice on Tuesday at 3:15. All 8 & Unders who swim in this meet will receive a participation ribbon. Those who place 1st-6th will receive "place" ribbons.
We know it's a lot of info so please reach out with any questions! For those who are new or are still learning the ropes, there are plenty of seasoned parents around that can help answer questions as well.

Strength & Honor
