Greetings SR2S advocates,

Tour de Kids (tourdekids.org) would be a great venue for getting the
word out about the Safe Routes to School program. It looks like we have
the opportunity to at least get information included in the "goody bags"
that each kid gets, possibly have an info table set up (either our own
or with a related group) or, if there's enough interest and knowledge
out there, run an arts/crafts area that another group recently abandoned.

Please read the below, and if you have any thoughts or comments, please
share them with the group.

Hi Kris,
It's safe to assume that we need more volunteers!!!! Thanks for sending
this out. Let me address what you've got down below and then as my
questions:

* Yes, we're looking for volunteers, thanks for askin'
* You are WELCOME to put something out. If you'd like me to, I can
scrounge up a press release, maybe I'll do that anyway.
* Thanks for offering to write it up as well. Frankly, we're going
a little but nuts:)
* We do have a goody bag for kids and you're welcome to put
something in it. We need 1,000 copies and they can be delivered
to my house (is that ok?). My address is on the bottom with my
signature info.
* I'm not against you're having a booth at TdK. There have been so
many details in bringing this event back that neither Rob or I
have spent a lot of time on it and I can see how this venue would
be terrific for non-profits like yourself to get the word out. I
do think that Rob and I are still hashing out where everything is
going to be. So, while I'm not saying 'yes', I'm not prepared to
say 'no' either. We'll have to get back to you.

Ok, my question - We need a festival for TdK. That means we need a
group/organization to run an arts/crafts section for the event. Maybe
some pretty little packaging that can go to their dad (in the past it's
been a flower pot) for Father's Day? We're pretty open, we just can't
do it ourselves and the organization that was going to handle this
dropped out just recently.

If this is something you'd like to handle, we could donate 'X' amount to
an organization of your choice? We would also pay for all the supplies
needed? You just need to organize it, we pay for it, and then we pay you!

What do you think? It may be a way to get the word out. Talking
directly with the kids, while their creating something to give to their dad?

Peace,
Dawn

Hi Dawn,

Is it safe to assume that TdK is still looking for race day
volunteers? If so, I'll send out a message to the Washtenaw
Bicycling and Walking Coalition mail list to see if that gets you
some. Just let me know if there are any particular roles or times
for which you still need volunteers. Or if you want to send
directly to the group yourself, feel free: wb...@googlegroups.com

Also, would it be possible for a group working on the Safe Routes to
School (SR2S) program to either have a table set up during TdK or to
perhaps have a one-page insert in whatever materials kids are given
that day (assuming they are given something, that is)? If the
latter, we would provide some volunteers to help assemble materials
if needed. SR2S is both an international movement to make it safe,
convenient and fun for children to bicycle and walk to school and a
federally-funded program in the U.S. , and it's starting to gain
some momentum in Washtenaw County. The parents and kids at TdK are
the perfect audience to learn about about the SR2S program, since
they are already enthusiastic about biking.

See http://www.wbwc.org/sr2s/ for more info.
