I am a teacher at Clague Middle School who, happily carless, commutes
5.5 miles each way by bike, or by bus in inclement weather.

I just put in a request to our PTSO to help with the sr2s registration,
training et al.

On the other hand, my students (or perhaps it is their parents) seem to
be much more reluctant to walk or bike to school. There is a concern
as the school is on Nixon Road with no sidewalks or bike lanes to the North.

I would like to know who else is signed on to this list, for mutual
support et al. Please check in.

Hi Jeff,

If you will set up a meeting with the Clauge Principal, the President
of the PTO and your self , I would be glad to explain the SR2S process
and hopefully get their buy in before proceeding further! I'm
currently with Eberwhite and they are now registered with the State
SR2S program and have just completed student and parent surveys to get
a baseline as we begin the program. I'm one of approximately 20 people
who have been to SR2S training from Washtenaw County and we would like
to get more schools involved in the process. I can be reached by phone
if you wish 734-546-3653.

Best Regards, Ray Fullerton

Hi Jeff and All,

I am also on this list and am a health educator with the County Public Health Department and with Washtenaw Biking and Walking Coalition. Here at the health department we have a couple of staff who are available for consultation and initial meetings. I currently work on Safe Routes with 3 schools in Saline, Carpenter Elementary in Ann Arbor, and will be forming a team at Thurston very soon.

I know Ray will be a great partner for talking with the Principal and getting folks on board at Clague. Let me know if there is any way I can help as well!

Lily,

Thanks so much. I'm thrilled with the response and that I have a parent from Logan, and now Thurston in the loop.  I'll keep you and all posted on our progress.

Jeff and Ray,

I work with Lily at the Washtenaw County Health Dept. and think that
as you proceed you should include Clague's Project Health Schools Rep,
Susan Aaronson at susa...@med.umich.edu. I'm not sure if Susan is
trained but she would be great to have on your team. Good Luck!
