Dear Washtenaw Safe Routes to School email list:
Washtenaw County Public Health (WCPH) is seeking up to 4 elementary schools that wish to develop Safe Routes to School action plans during the 2010-11 school year. Safe Routes to School seeks to make it safer for students to walk or bike to school, and to increase the numbers who do so. www.michigansaferoutes.org This grant will provide $1,000 to each school and Health Department staff support. The project will begin in October 2010 and continue through September 30, 2011. Elementary schools must have students in grades 3 or higher. Schools will be selected in the order they are received. Complete program and application information is attached.
If your district has recently changed its transportation practices, Safe Routes to School may provide you the opportunity to work with your school community (parents, staff, law enforcement, city/village/township) to help plan safer walking/biking routes to school, coordinate a remote drop off area for parents, and limit traffic congestion at drop off/pick up.
