When a giant clock reached 09:09:09 on 09/09/09, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Ruler of Dubai and Vice President of the UAE, swiped his personal plastic card at a ticket barrier and became the first passenger on Dubai’s Metro.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, boarded the first ever Dubai Metro train on Wednesday night.

Three trains will be flagged off tonight at about 9pm as the Dubai Metro rolls into history books as the world’s longest driverless train network on Wednesday.
