Hello YMCA squash players,
As some of you may know, for the past couple of years our YMCA has
entered a team into the National Capital Squash league to play
against other squash teams in the DC area. It’s now coming up to the
start of the winter season and we need you so that another Y team can
carry on our record of (very mixed!) success.
We are planning to enter a team
in division 4 so that means games on a Thursday evening at around 7pm.
There is no expectation that you have to play every week as we’re
looking for a minimum roster of 7 players (ideally more) and only 4
players actually play each week.
If you’re interested or think you might be interested, please send an
email to
stevem...@gmail.com over the next few days. We need a
minimum of 7 players to enter a team and we need to register our
intent to play within the next couple of weeks.
Below are a few things that I think you might want to know but please
check out the NCS website (
http://nationalcapitalsquash.org/?page_id=3707) or send a message to the Google group (or me directly)
if you have other questions.
Please also tell others that may not be on this list.
Hope to hear from many of you soon
Steve Holmes
Questions I could think of:
When are the games? Thursdays at around 7pm from November to March
Would I have to play every week? No. We need 4 players each week but
we’re looking for a large roster of players to choose from (we need a
minimum of 7 on the roster to enter the league)
What level is it? There are 6 divisions in the NCS league system and division 4 is toward the lower end. I would say it’s intermediate player level
What’s in it for me? Take your pick: improve your game, meet new
people, get to play on international courts, get to play at a fancy
club (that wouldn’t normally let you in the door), etc, etc
Do I need to be a member? You need to be a member of National Capital Squash to play in
the league. It costs around $90 a year and you get some additional benefits with your membership
Are all the games at the Y? No. We play against different teams in the
area so some weeks we’ll be at home and others we’ll be visiting other
teams (which tend to have nicer courts!)
What’s the deadline to sign up? Soon. We need to confirm that we have
a minimum 7 person roster within the next couple of weeks
