P.S: In case you don't know which architecture you used, you can check by using uname -m from terminal. Remember to install the dependencies or packettracer from the directory where the file is stored, so cd to the directory first. And, if you already installed the package and seems didn't work, try to reinstall the packet tracer first.

P.S. This hack, like many others, illustrates the need in this interface for a Viable hack label in case the choice of the Accept as solution label turns out to be inadequate. By definition the latter label refers in this context to an installer that does not require any hacking.

Exactly, like I mention above, it would be better to wait for the next update to be delivered so we don't need this viable hack method. Thus, the solution I mentioned above is intended for someone who has Ubuntu or other Linux distribution as their main operating system and found the same problem like this, where they needs this program to run immediately for certain purpose and can't wait for unconfirmed time for the update delivered.

Double click the downloaded file. It should open the installer file in the Software Center. The Software Center is the default program of Ubuntu for software installation. From the Software Center, you can install and remove software in Ubuntu.

In Ubuntu, all software management-related tasks require authentication. This feature protects the system from unauthorized modifications. To authenticate the installation process, type your password and click Authenticate button when the installation process displays the authentication box.

If the installation process ends with an error, you have to install Packet Tracer from other methods. Instead of providing the exact reason that stops the installation process, the Software Center displays a generic message that indicates that the installation process fails.

Now, the command installs Packet Tracer. If the installation fails, the command displays the exact reason that stops the installation. The most common reason for failure is the dependency on packages. Packet Tracer needs several packages. If one or more packages are not installed or configured, the installation fails. For example, Packet Tracer 8.0.0 needs the following packages that are not configured by default.

Download the version of Packet Tracer that you want to install and open the folder that contains the downloaded file. Select the downloaded file and right-click. From the right-click menu, click the Run option.

If you want to install Packet Tracer in another directory, use the Browse button to navigate the file-system and select the directory that you want. If you change the installation directory, make sure you use the changed directory path in the following steps.

On the next screen, the installation process displays the size of the disk space that Packet Tracer will use after the installation. Till this stage, the installation process writes nothing on the disk. So, if you want to make any change, such as changing the installation directory, use the Back button and make the necessary change.

Once the installation is complete, the wizard displays the result of the installation on the last screen. If something goes wrong during installation, the wizard displays the corresponding error message on this screen. Click the Finish button to close the wizard.

Once the installation is complete, you can start the packet tracer in two ways. To start it from the application launcher, click the Dash button. In the search box of the opened-pane, type "packet tracer". Click the Packet Tracer icon from the result.

Change the current directory to the directory /opt/pt/bin and execute the launcher file of Packet Tracer directly. If Packet Tracer does not start, the reason that blocks Packet Tracer from starting will display on the terminal. The most common reason is the following.

Packet Tracer uses a library named libpng12.so.0 of Ubuntu. This library has been deprecated in Ubuntu. Since this library is no longer available in Ubuntu and Packet Tracer depends on this library, the packet tracer does not start.

I tried to install it both from the terminal and directly from the .deb file via the store but I try to start it and absolutely nothing happens.
From the terminal it gives me the starting packet tracer 8.2 but nothing happens.

I would like to know if anyone on this forum has found packettracer installation package for Rocky?
I have looked around but cannot find it though snap searches on snap craft but not installing it.

The easiest way to get Packet Tracer (and the official one) would be to register at netacad.com and download packet tracer deb. The easiest way I can think of is a virtual machine with Ubuntu 20 running just for Packet Tracer.

Update 06/04/2024 : A new Cisco Packet Tracer 8.2.2 version has been released for download on Netacad website. This is a bugfix release fixing several bugs on accessibility, usability, and security of Packet Tracer 8.2. Cisco Packet Tracer 8.2 introduced a new command as well as bug fixing regarding incompatible DLLs that caused Packet Tracer crashes.

Cisco Packet Tracer 8.2 is created by Cisco SystemsTM and is provided for free to everyone. Self learners are able to download Cisco Packet Tracer after registering on Cisco Netacad website. This is a major change in Cisco delivery policy for Packet Tracer as previous versions were only available for Netacad students and instructors.

Cisco Packet Tracer 8.2.2 can be downloaded for FREE from official Cisco Netacad website. Log in to Cisco Netacad.com learning website and select Resources > Packet Tracer in the menu to access the download page. The software is provided with several tutorial files allowing academy students to discover the software features.

The NX-OSv 9000 is a virtual appliance designed to simulate the control plane of a Cisco Nexus 9000 switch. The NX-OSv 9000 shares the same software image running on Cisco Nexus 9000 hardware platform. Line card (LC) ASIC provisioning or any interaction from the control plane to rela switch ASICs are emulated by the NX-OSv 9000 software data plane.

Following the the Nexus 7000 Titanium emulator, the NX-OSv 9000 is a moder emulator for datacenter certifications training. It's also great plaform to test network automation prior to production deployment.

NX-OSv 9000 runs on GNS3, KVM, or VMware NSX. Current version of NXOSv is 10.4(1)F. This version adds or enhances VXLAN EVPN First Hop Security (IPv4), radius over DTLS, port-channel load-balance command for MPLS tagged traffic, support to redirect/deny all packets using ePBR policy, VXLAN QoS Outer Header Policy for Layer 2

UCS PE (Platform Emulator) is a powerful Cisco UCS Manager emulator allowing CCNP datacenter students to learn how to configure the UCS environment. The current version emulates the UCS manager 4.2(2aPE1), which includes 62xx/63xx/64xx Fabric Interconnect, C4200 series rack server chassis with C125 rack servers, as well as Cisco UCS M6 and HX220C and HX240C servers support. The S3260 storage server is also emulated in UCS PE. These release can be connected to GNS using VMware.

UCS PE is also featured in a Cisco dCloud programmability demo (cisco login required). The demo includes a comprehensive lab guide including the following content for Cisco UCS PowerTool and the Python SDK:

PT Anywhere is a web application designed to offer a network simulation environment based on Cisco Packet Tracer engine throug a web interface which can be accessed from a web browser. PT Anywhere can as such be integrated inside a website, an online course, a learning systm like moodle... It has been developed by the Open University and Cisco and has been funded by the FORGE project.

The PTBridge java utilitary has been validated working with Cisco Packet Tracer 7.0 . This tool provides real network connectivity to Cisco Packet Tracer, and thus the ability to connect to other lab environments. Download it from Github and connect your Packet Tracer labs to your real Cisco devices !.

Can I just replace Gnome with whatever desktop I have? Also, and I am brand new to linux in general, but I haven't even gotten it to install. this doesn't seem to be the appropriate fix for validation issues.

Where did you get that idea from? You need to actually download the CiscoPacketTracer_801_Ubuntu_64bit.deb file and place it in the build directory, just as the instructions on the AUR page you've supposedly read tells you to.

so, I went to the PKGBUILD file and I changes this line because the link for the download had this URL when I hovered over it. So I figured if I found this line and changed the URL I would resolve the issue. I did not try to change the line prior to the first installation.

If you can the file downloaded was the web login / redirection page. The PKGBUILD does not contain a download link because you are required to login. After you obtained the .deb using your web browser and placed that in the same directory as the PKGBUILD, makepkg will use that file without you having to make changes to the PKGBUILD.
