Every time Joan and I come back from a touring run we cry "Boy!  Wasn't that special?  Wasn't that incredible?".   Again: it's as if someone has taken a day, gripped one end of it, anchored the other and stretched it out, so it seems like a week!

But, how can they all be special?  Surely we are doing the same kind of thing every time: avoid the main roads, explore things we see, drum up outside, .......?   So, how can they be special?

But, the plain truth of the matter is that they are special.  Perhaps the particular combination of people and place, with a bit of weather and luck thrown in: the weather was wonderful and no-one fell off, we got not even one puncture.

Route is here:https://my.viewranger.com/route/details/MzQwOTA3OA== and gpx attached.

So steep was the first climb out of Newry, that only Brian was able to cycle up it and he cheated by using both his legs.  My excuse for walking stemmed from the fact that my pump fell off at the bottom.  Joan made a brave effort, but didn't quite make it.

It was Joan that plotted the route.  I was worried, there were a lot of tea stains.   But in fact, after the first climb, it was all quite civilised, indeed mostly descending all the way to the main Greenore Road.

After Joan had her swim and stopped shivering, we drummed up with tinned sardines, nuts, cereal bars, bread, dates, chocolate and lashings of tea.   Then we followed the horrible ugly route to Carlingford where the locals had to endure our antics eating ice cream.  (Some are still laughing.  It'll take the village some time to recover.)

After Carlingford, joy of joy, Margaret Cassidy spotted a greenway.  Such fun we had on it, all the way to Omeath.  (We'll be doing that one again, I assure you.)

Unfortunately Brian and I had a head of steam up and we missed the start of the next greenway.  It looked particularly attractive, having water on both its sides and running the whole way back to Newry.  (Another one for the book.)

Most of our camera work was at the quay and after that.   We took no fotogriefs on the way out, sorry.

The road through Ravensdale was wonderful, wonderful, wonderful - lots of mature forest and no climbs worth a glance.  It brought back a lot of old memories for me, having lived there briefly, way back.
