Hi,
I was trying to find information on how prevalent is encryption of desktops in enterprise environments. If folks in the list have some reference/suggestion where I could get this info that would be very helpful. Also, any comments or opinions on the topic are also welcome.
Thanks
Abhilasha

We are not encrypting desktops yet, but we will be soon. One of the drivers is space (including email quotas and the need for large personal folders) - multiply the number of workstations we have by 120GB and you have a lot of space! On the other hand, we're also looking at the merits of going to virtual desktops.  :)

I would suggest a quick scan of the press releases for the Major FDE players gives you a good sense.

These are just off the top of my head & these are only public ones (my Associates at other companies please correct me about your deals):

WinMagic – Mount Sinai (Laptops & Desktops)

Pointsec / CheckPoint – Wells Fargo (Laptops and Desktops)

Guardian Edge – VA Affairs (Laptops and Desktops)

Mobile Armor – Army (Laptops & Desktops) , Navy (Laptops & Desktops) (Listed Myself last J )

Generally, I would tell you from doing this for almost 15 years now and working with every major vendor in this market – that companies usually lead with encrypting laptops but follow with encrypting all machines. Regulatory regulated industries, particularly Financial Services, lead this due to the audit findings and fines related to GLBA.

Regards;

Bryan
