Hi all!

SCC has long been trying to put together a little con for our members to table at and sell their work. We are still trying to do that (our sister group in Baltimore, BMore Into Comics, does this sort of thing all the time) but we're brainstorming venues. Fantom is obvious, but we want other options. If any of you can think of a connection you have to a venue (a bar or a community space) and think we could use it for a show, please feel free to respond to this thread.

Also, we are trying to roll out a couple new cool things this year for us to do, but some of them involve $$$. We usually ask for donations at meetings, but are not allowed to do that in libraries. So below we've got a ko-fi you can donate to.

Have a happy new year and keep on comicking!

Two places!

- The Cheshire: an art and show place in Adams Morgan. I was in the DC lowbrow show in the space and I absolutely loved it. The people running it were really into the art, were super nice, and definitely seemed interested in doing more local events. One downside is it doesn't have much in the way of heating and cooling so if we do this in the summer we're going to want to bring fans. For the lowbrow it wasn't too much of a problem because the sheer amount of bodies warmed it up pretty quick. Honestly I feel like this space is the most versatile since it's a retrofitted garage so it's an open layout!

-Hole in the Sky: we've had a few Square City members show at showcases at this venue near Rhode Island station, and it's still a viable option. They ran a Bizarre Bazaar a couple of times which I actually did pretty well at. The downside is it doesn't have much in the way of temperature control and it is on a second floor with no elevator. We did get a good number of people in there though so you can cram a lot of artists there

Back in 2010, the DC Conspiracy threw a one day convention at a place called RFD Washington (810 7th St NW). They have a back room with a separate entrance that really only sees traffic during Capitals games, but is usually empty on Saturday afternoons. It's even got its own bar.
