Isha is happy to announce that Project GreenHands has started a 'Green Chennai' campaign in association with CII and Chennai Corporation on June 5th 2010. It offers all of us a wonderful opportunity to volunteer and leave a permanent, positive footprint on our dear Chennai city, by planting or getting other people to plant and care for a large number of trees.
The main focus of this project is to sensitise the population of Chennai about the environment and get as many trees as possible planted within Chennai city with volunteer support from Chennai's public, students and corporate employees. A brief outline of the project is enclosed for your information.
Registration of volunteers for field work will start by mid-June. We expect the project to invoke a very good response with involvement of thousands of volunteers from across the city. To coordinate and monitor the efforts of these volunteers, prepare zone maps (using google maps) and manage data / information flows, we need a core team of volunteers.
We invite Isha meditators as well as non-meditators, who would like to be part of this core group, to kindly register with us immediately. Access to computer and/or internet would be an advantage, but the key criteria is a passion to see our city transformed and a willingness to spare just a few hours each week for the project, even if it is only during weekends.
