Problem with Ruby 2.2 gem under Windows 7

I'm having the same problem as discussed in the "Problem with Ruby 2.0 gem under Windows 7" post.  So my questions are:

1) Do I have to wait until someone makes the proper handshake between the two, or can I compile my own SQLite3 under Ruby 2.2?

2) Can I just scrap SQLite3 and load a different server with a different gem? This is my real problem- I can't get the server to load.

I'm new to Ruby so I hope I asked the questions correctly.
