how to recover a mdf/ldf data/log file

I have a database1.mdf and database1_log.ldf files that are with problem
when I try to attach this files, a have the message above.

The file you've specified is not a valid SQL Server database file.
Anyone knows a software that recovery this files ?

Where did these files come from? were they from a SQL Server 2000 or
2005 instance? what instance are you trying to attach them to?
