WhenI try to access the NVR through the IExplorer or Chrome browsers by entering the IP address, I see the login screen and it attempts to download the webplugin.exe file. It's a consistent FAIL because of the version of my OS. I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 bit with Service Pack 1 installed.

I have seem issues like this and it turns out to be the Antivirus software ( If running one). I will try to uninstall the webplugin.exe then turn off your antivirus for a moment then install the plugging.

I have found this to be Internet Explorer security settings about 90% of the time. If you have not done this = Open Internet Explorer and click the 'gear' icon at the top right - Choose 'Internet Options'. When that opens - go to the 'Security' tab (2nd tab at top) Look for a 'Custom Level' button and click it. Now you are looking at a list of .Net entries - scroll down to the ActiveX entries.

Find 'Download unsigned ActiveX controls' and set to 'Prompt'.

Find 'Initialize and script ActiveX controls (not marked safe for scripting) and set to 'Prompt'

Save your way out of that dialog, and enter the IP address of the DVR into the address bar of Internet Explorer. When the login prompt appears - stop - go to the Internet Explorer 'Gear' icon again and this time choose 'Compatibility View Settings'. When that dialog appears - click the 'Add' button so your IP address appears in the lower box. Close that dialog.

Now - run the ActiveX add-ons and it should work.

Accessing the web service on one of our DVR's, NVR's or IP cameras requires that you use a compatible browser. Attempting to log in remotely to one or all of these devices with an incompatible browser will produce unpredictable errors. What is a compatible browser? A compatible browser is one that can use ActiveX controls. Therefore, you must use one of the following two browsers:

Given that ActiveX is a proprietary Microsoft technology it is best to use IE 11, but if you are unable to use it due to whatever reasons, Firefox is good as a backup. Here we'll go over the necessary steps to get the ActiveX controls working for the Web Service on your surveillance cameras.

You will be prompted to decide what action to take with the webplugin.exe file. This is the file needed to view video and change settings. This file is known to trigger false positives on antivirus software.

If your antivirus blocked it and deemed it a threat, disable your antivirus for 5 minutes and get this installed. Without it you will not be able to view video or change settings. You may not even be able to log in.

Click allow and remember. If you only allow now, the next instance of Firefox to visit the site will prompt you again to allow or disallow the plugin. It can go easily unnoticed at the top and cause you unnecessary headaches in the future.
