Hi,

Kite is a free plugin for several IDEs and editors that uses machine learning to provide better code completions for Python. We are planning to add support for Kite in Spyder, but before proceeding we’d like to know your opinion about it. Please help us with that by filling the following poll:

Thanks for your help,
Carlos

Hi Carlos,

Some questions, would it be the default code completion? would it be an option to disable or completely remove the plugin? As it is a plugin I suppose it will be optional.

Thanks.

Kind regards.

Hi Carlos

I think kite would be nice. I went to the poll and I voted yes.

However here is an additional opinion (not that you were asking!):
I really think that adding kite should not be a priority, in terms of further development of Spyder, that is any higher than either
(a) improved debugging capabilities, or
(b) integration of a version control system.
(As I understand things, these both are on the roadmap and being worked on-- correct?)

In other words, if the effort to add support for kite in some way ended up stealing resources (time & effort) from the development team, in such a way that it slowed down progress on those other two goals, I think that would be a serious mistake. Just my opinion!

In any case I thank you, and all the contributors, for continuing to maintain and improve Spyder. I rely on it heavily in my day to day work. I have researched many IDEs and notebook type tools, and tested several of them out. For people like me, who are more scientific programmers than software developers, Spyder is the very best tool available.

Cheers
Dan
