I would like to use Spyder, but I need Jupyter support.  I understand it is not supported in Spyder 5.  I posted a question about this a month ago, but it was apparently never approved for posting.

Can I downgrade to Spyder 4 to get notebook support, until Spyder 5 supports it?
If so, is there a document to explain the process to do that?
When will Spyder 5 add notebook support?

Well that went nowhere.  How about this:  I thought I would just install Spyder 4 from scratch, and install the Jupyter plugin with that.  But the docs at https://github.com/spyder-ide/spyder-notebook say it can't be used with the installers on Windows and Mac.  So is the Jupyter notebook supported only on Linux?

Hi!

For the moment, yes, you will need to install Spyder 4.2.5 to use the plugin regardles of your OS. However, to do that setup you will need to do the installation using the conda/PyPI package. The installers for Windows and Mac come bundled with a set off packages in an standalone format so it is not possible for the moment to install extra plugins when using them. Also, just in case, a couple of links related with the spyder-notebook plugin compatibility with Spyder 5 progress: Issue - https://github.com/spyder-ide/spyder-notebook/issues/360 and PR - https://github.com/spyder-ide/spyder-notebook/pull/369

Hopefuly this makes a little bit more clear the state of things.

Best regards,

Daniel
