I am migrating away from PyCharm because of the security hack and one feature I miss is that it automatically saved my files.

My research shows this is an open enhancement item? Or is there a way to automatically save files that you have changed?

I am curious to know if you'd stop using all Microsoft products because they, too, were accessed by hackers (ref: https://www.zdnet.com/article/solarwinds-hackers-accessed-microsoft-source-code/ )

It does seem that it was one very specific JetBrains product - TeamCity - that was targeted.  It's unlikely that an IDE would be of much interest to them.

Is there specific evidence of PyCharm having security flaws?

that is exactly what the developers have been complaining about... to no avail!

Yes, you make a good point.

No. But that doesnt stop paranoid companies from being paranoid. :)

As an aside, I really need autosave. I simply cannot consider Spyder any further if it doesnt have it.

Hello,
I don't think that Spyder has a autosave-feature but in case of a PC crash it keeps a autosaved backup of the modified files as far as I know.
Why don't autosave on your own? I got into the habit of regularly hitting Crl+S. The autosave-feature is not needed.

Kind regards

You're right - it's not needed. But I most certainly do prefer it. Hence I'm ruling out Spyder and preferring VSCode!

In 'Tools > Preferences' you have the option 'Editor' and there you
have the tab 'Advanced settings'. The first option in this tab is
'Autosave'.

Kiko names the feature I previously mentioned. Spyder automatically saves a copy of unsaved changes to a file. In case of a crash of some kind, spyder is able to restore the unsaved changes from the autosaved copy. The code is not lost.
