Hi,

First of all i am very happy to use spyder as a scientific Python IDE
on Linux, i have been using it in Windows Spyder 2.08 alongside Python
2.7.0, Qt 4.7.1, PyQt 4.8.3 and I am very happy that i made my first
steps in numpy and scipy with it.

I just installed Spyder 1.0.3 along with Python 2.6.6, Qt 4.7.0, PyQt
4.7.4, QScintilla 2.4.4 on Linux
Kubuntu 10.10 as this machine is much more powerfull...

However when starting python from the shell, because I did not find it
in the kde-menu, I get the following output:

(8247) KSharedDataCache::Private::mapSharedMemory: Opening cache "/var/
tmp/kdecache-jeckstein/icon-cache.kcache" page size is 4096
(8247) KSharedDataCache::Private::mapSharedMemory: Attached to cache,
determining if it must be initialized
(8247) KSharedDataCache::Private::mapSharedMemory: Cache fully
initialized -- attached to memory mapping
(8247) KSharedDataCache::Private::mapSharedMemory: 4562944 bytes
available out of 10485760
(8247) KIconCache::Private::themeDirsChanged: Theme directory has been
modified
(8247) KSycocaPrivate::openDatabase: Trying to open ksycoca from "/
var/tmp/kdecache-jeckstein/ksycoca4"
QInotifyFileSystemWatcherEngine::addPaths: inotify_add_watch failed:
Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden
QFileSystemWatcher: failed to add paths: ~/.config/ibus/bus
Bus::open: Can not get ibus-daemon's address.
IBusInputContext::createInputContext: no connection to ibus-daemon

I am not shure if this bug is related to spyder at all.

I did not understand the hint to install the newest .egg file if the
version is outdated, which it obviously is.

Hi,

Unfortunately the Spyder version on Kubuntu 10.10 is the previous
version (1.0.3, as you mention), which is oudated and not maintained
anymore. Please download and install Spyder 2.0.10 from here:

http://code.google.com/p/spyderlib/downloads/list

or wait until Kubuntu 11.04 is released, which will bring Spyder 2.0.6
in its repositories.

Thank you for your interest in the project and for your kind words,
Carlos

As mentioned in the recently updated Installation Wiki page, note that
an official Debian package is also available:
