Hi all,

On behalf of the Spyder Project Contributors, I'm pleased to announce that Spyder 6.0.6 has been released and is available for Windows, GNU/Linux and MacOS X: https://github.com/spyder-ide/spyder/releases

This release comes seven weeks after version 6.0.5 and it contains the following new features and important fixes:

  • Make Editor annotations (like FIXME or HINT) work in lowercase.
  • Retore Quit action to the the IPython console context menu.
  • Don't advance line when running code if there's selected text in the Editor.
  • Prevent breakpoints from disappearing when formatting code.
  • Fix remote connections error when using the Key file authentication method.
  • Respect case sensitivity of working directory when running code.
  • Disable fullscreen mode when running on the Windows Subsystem for Linux.
  • Several fixes to prevent the Editor and Find panes from taking too much horizontal space.
  • Show a better error message when failing to open objects in the Variable Explorer due to a mismatch of Python versions.
  • Fix opening Files pane context menu when clicking on its blank area.
  • Remove QtWebEngine requirement to show the Help Spyder action.
  • Prevent Matplotlib cache font message from being displayed.
  • Ensure color scheme changes are applied to all the open files.

In this release we fixed 20 issues and merged 37 pull requests. For a full list of fixes, please see our Changelog.

Hello Daniel,

I just (finally) upgraded to Spyder 6 within my Anaconda 3.

Some time ago I "complained" that when Spyder opens up
by my clicking on its task bar icon in Windows 11, Spyder
then opens a whole new taskbar icon, which is really annoying
if the initial taskbar icon is on the first level of taskbar icons and
the newly opened one is on the second level of icons (I know
that's too many icons on my taskbar, but that's a separate issue ... :)
Anyway, just wondering if that's a Spyder thing or a Windows
thing, and if anyone is looking at that "issue" ...

Meantime, thanks for all your hard work ... Spyder is still a great product!

Thanks,
Porter

Hi Porter,

Thank you for the feedback! Regarding the taskbar issue you mention, I think it could be related with menuinst (the package used to interact with menus/shortcuts for conda packages). Also, we currently have an issue for a double icon in the taskbar that could be related with the described behavior (Two Spyder icons on Windows taskbar (regression?) · Issue #24292 · spyder-ide/spyder).

Let us know if this info helps!

Best regards,

Daniel
