to spyder
I have tried to install the latest version of Spyder for Python 2.7 on an Ubuntu 16.04 machine.

`pip install --user spyder` should do the trick but fails due to `ipython`. Apparently, pip tries to pull version 6.x which is not compatible with Python 2.x. I have tried to install ipython 5.4 first before spyder, but it yields the same error.

Any idea how to solve this?

You need to update pip because only its latest version is able to install different versions for Python 2 and 3.

Cheers,
Carlos
