Dear Spyder users,

I am running a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015), macOS Sierra 10.12. I have used in the past Python 2.7 + Spyder without any problem with OSX. I am running the latest Anaconda distribution.

1) Spyder 3 always eventually crashes, especially when switching windows.I have described the problem here. The graphical interface is really grainy and low resolution for any backend I use. I don't have this problem with Spyder 2.

2) Spyder 2, ipython's console is slow, and unresponsive. 'Enter' won't execute lines and the fix of "Shift Enter" does work but very simple computations take seconds.

Therefore I cannot use Spyder at all in my new system, and this is killing me. Please any help?

Hi,

Could you download and try again with our DMG installer? You can find it here

    https://github.com/spyder-ide/spyder/releases

This installer is built using pure wheels, not Anaconda packages, so maybe it doesn't have the problems you report :-)

Cheers,
Carlos

Hi,

After a bit of research I found that the current version of Qt in Anaconda (and also in our DMG installers) doesn't support Sierra. So we need to update it in both :-)

I'll add a proper answer in StackOverflow so other people can know about this, but thanks a lot for bringing that up to our attention!! I hope to have new packages for Anaconda next week.

Cheers,
Carlos

Thank you Carlos,

I have updated both qt and spyder to 3.0.1 and it seems now the crashing issue has been resolved. The low res graphs is still not solved though. Although exported figures look pretty sharp and neat, the interactive graphics are quite blurred. I'm assuming this is a retina issue. The graphics with Spyder 2.0 look sharp in contrast.

Best regards,

Alex
