open Spyder with 'Variable Explorer' pane in focus (instead of 'Help')?

Dear Spyder-Community,

I'm a big fan of the Spyder IDE, so first of all thanks a lot to all the developers and contributors! Actually I never encountered issues with Spyder that couldn't be solved or were fixed in a subsequent release.

However, there is one thing that has been bugging me for a while now - whenever I start Spyder, the 'Help' pane is selected (in focus) by default (I'm using the default layout).

Can I change that somewhere in the settings? For example, I'd like the 'Variable Explorer' pane to be selected by default at startup.

(Python 3.8.2 x64 on Windows 10, Spyder 4.1.1)

Hi,

This is not possible at the moment, i.e. the IPython console, Editor and Help and shown by default when you open Spyder. But please open an issue here:

https://github.com/spyder-ide/spyder/issues

so we don't forget to address this in a future release.
