Hi,

When I go to open a file in Spyder, the file type is defaulting to 'Supported text files (*.R *.jl etc), and doesn't allow me to open a Python file. Even adding *.py to the list of supported text files doesn't work. I have to select 'Python Files' from the dropdown. I realise it's a small annoyance and is easily worked around, but it's a pain! Is there any way to get it to default to 'Python Files'?

Also, despite selecting 'Open files from Finder with Spyder' under Application/Interface/macOS integration, that doesn't happen. I'm not sure if the two issues are related.

I'm using Spyder 5.5.5 on macOS Sonoma 14.5.

thanks,
Emma

Hi Emma,

I think the behavior you are experiencing from the Open file dialog is related with Open File / File explorer does not show the files selected in the filter · Issue #22272 · spyder-ide/spyder (github.com) and On macOS "Save as..." always defaults to saving with ".R" extension rather than ".py" · Issue #22248 · spyder-ide/spyder (github.com) (that last one was already fixed and will be part of a future Spyder release). Regarding the Open files from Finder with Spyder option, that seems like a different issue. Could you open an issue for that over the Spyder GitHub issue tracker page please?

Let us know if the info above helps!

Best regards,

Daniel
