BARL–OATS Mixed Crop Plant Community Initialization

Question:
For a BARL–OATS mixture growing and being harvested simultaneously in the same HRU, should Plant Population be set to 0 or given a non-zero value for each plant? If set to 0, how does SWAT+ initialize and spatially distribute both plants within the HRU?

Could you please provide documentation or source-code evidence explaining this process?
