Dear SPSP Student Member,
The 12th annual SPSP Meeting is just around the corner (January 27-29th, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas) and your Graduate Student Committee (GSC) is currently finalising a wide variety of events designed to target your academic and networking needs! To give you a taster of what we have in store, our conference kick-starts bright and early Thursday morning with the GSC preconference (Show me the Money (and Jobs): A Guide to The Land of Funding and Employment). On Friday you have the GSC poster (Do SPSP Students Really Think Straight About Weird Things), a GSC Symposium (Developing as a Student Researcher, Writer and Collaborator) as well the GSC Mentored Luncheon event to look forward to! If that wasn’t enough you are also invited on Saturday to the GSC Business Meeting (where you can meet and chat to everyone on the GSC) as well as a second Mentored Luncheon. To cap it all off we have a host of Student Poster Awards to give out, five Outstanding Research Awards to acknowledge and much, much more! Oh and don’t forget the new GSC Student Lounge – a dedicated space for students to relax, network and catch up with all the latest news at the conference. For more details on all our events just click here*.
*Please note however that both the Mentored Luncheon and GSC Preconference events require pre-registration and are on a purely first come, first serve basis. So stop by the GSC website and book your place now! Our website also has invaluable travel information concerning how to get to San Antonio, where to stay and what to do. Moreover, you can also partake in our “Hotel Match-Up Program”.
Finally, are you interested in becoming the next GSC President or serving as one of the five GSC Members-At-Large? Then now is your chance! The GSC is now accepting nominations and campaign statements for the 2011-2012 Graduate Student Committee. No prior experience is required for these positions. The only requirement is that you are a current student member of SPSP in good standing. The FINAL deadline to get your nominations in to us is January 7th and the election period will start the week after. The new GSC will take office on March 1, 2011.
If you would like to submit a self-nomination please send the following information to us at sps...@yahoo.com:
1. Name
2. University affiliation
3. Position you are seeking
4. Brief position statement (around a paragraph) stating why you would like the position, why people should vote for you, any relevant past experience, ideas you would implement, etc.
Best Regards,
2010-2011 SPSP Graduate Student Committee
