ANNOUNCING THE 2011-2012 SPSP STUDENT POSTER AWARD
COMPETITION!

The SPSP Graduate Student Committee is now accepting applications for the SPSP
Student Poster Award 2011-2012. This award recognizes undergraduate or graduate
poster presentations characterized by excellence in research, clarity in presentation, and
personal knowledge in a discussion with the judges at the SPSP Annual Meeting 2012 in
San Diego, California. Award winners will receive a monetary prize and public recognition
for their achievement. In addition, the seven first place winners will also have their posters
prominently displayed throughout the entire SPSP Annual Meeting with your research
showcased to the SPSP community.

Students who enter the competition will first have an award submission statement reviewed
by their peers, who will select 35 finalists. These finalists will present their poster during the
first poster session of the SPSP Annual Meeting and be interviewed by several secret judges.
On the basis of the judges' scores seven first place and fourteen runners-up will be selected.

INTERESTED IN BECOMING A SPSP STUDENT REVIEWER?

The SPSP Student Committee is now offering motivated graduate and undergraduate students
the opportunity to serve as reviewers for the Student Poster Award. As a Reviewer you will
evaluate the merit of assigned posters and provide written feedback. Taking part will provide
you with firsthand experience of the academic review process while at the same time boost
your vita. The process is straightforward and requires minimal time and effort. Depending on
the number of applicants for the award, the reviewers will use a scoring sheet to review 3 to 5
applications (i.e. a 500-word summary of the poster to be presented) during a 3-week period.

If interested, you will need to be able to review 3-5 applications during August and return
them no later than September 16th, 2011. We do not expect that anyone will require the full
period to review 3-5 applications but wish to give our volunteers some flexibility.
